Tucked into the rolling hills of Sonoma, California, this rural retreat was thoughtfully reimagined to reconnect a once-disjointed home with its surrounding landscape, creating a multi-generational gathering place for a Silicon Valley tech executive and her extended family to slow down and reconnect. Arrival unfolds along a winding gravel drive past vineyards and open fields, before a reclaimed-wood gate, framed by mature oaks, reveals sweeping mountain views that immediately instill a sense of calm. Originally a Santa Fe–meets, log cabin hybrid, the home was transformed through a collaboration between Aimee Kirby of Ferox Studio and Mariam Mollaghaffari of Mariam Grace Design to better align the architecture with its setting and to craft a warm, layered, and highly textural interior. Warm wood floors, raised ceilings, exposed beams, and an 18-foot-wide multi-slide door flood the living spaces with light and reinforce a strong connection to the outdoors, while custom and commissioned pieces, including a woven textile concealing the television, sculptural seating, and handcrafted furnishings, anchor the home in thoughtful curation. The kitchen, though compact, feels expansive through the use of skylights and saturated Cottage Red cabinetry that nods to the homeowner’s British heritage, complemented by layered metals and antique finishes throughout. The dining room, enveloped in Wellfleet Blue, centers on a custom table and picture window overlooking a jasmine-lined pergola, while bedrooms, baths, and a vintage inspired cinema room prioritize comfort, intimacy, and family connection. Outdoors, Mediterranean plantings, new seat walls, a reimagined pool and spa, sauna, outdoor shower, and fire pit create a cohesive wellness landscape, with a converted tractor shed art studio and a tea house honoring the family’s matriarch, encouraging wandering, reflection, and quiet moments of retreat. Throughout, the design never shouts; instead, it offers a gentle invitation to come in, slow down, and stay awhile.
